Independent, international oil & gas firm located in The Woodlands, TX, in search of an experienced Accountant. Position is responsible for the supervision of maintenance of books of accounts for the firm and providing contracts/procurement/finance and accountancy support to the project team.
Responsibilities will include the following:
Budgeting and Project Accounting (approximately 50% of total time)
- Assist in budgeting of Houston office costs and monitoring of actual costs against budget Manage time writing system in Houston and assist in optimizing office costs
- Review AFEs with AFE managers based in Houston to understand how estimates have been put together, and assist them in review of actual costs v AFE and time writing costs to their projects/AFEs
- Coordinate issues like AFE preparation, AFE numbers, etc. between Houston, London and Lagos to facilitate project team in Houston
- Liaise regularly with finance staff and address any issues which arise
- Walk COO through monthly finance reports highlighting significant issues
Financial Accounting (approximately 25% of total time)
- Supervise one junior accountant
- Supervise and manage:
a) Preparation of accounts up to trial balance for US entity
b) Reconciliations of balance sheet accounts e.g. prepayments, accruals inter-company, bank reconciliations and supplier reconciliations
c) Employee expense claim management - Calculating depreciation including reconciliation of fixed assets register to ledger
- First point of contact for reporting to Head Office in London, including queries
- Dealing with audit queries and requests including preparation of audit schedules
Control and Procurement (25% of total time)
- Responsible for commitment control and procurement system in Houston (Proactis)
- Liaise with London C&P on behalf of project team in Houston e.g. in the case of sole source justifications and JOT papers for projects
- Coordinate issues between C&P and finance in London on behalf of project team in Houston e.g. ensuring expenditure is covered by an AFE before commitments are made
- Liaise with US based suppliers and resolve any payment issues including liaison with project accountants in Lagos
Requirements:
- 5-10 years accounting experience with minimum 2-3 years oil and gas operating company experience
- 4 year accounting or business related degree, CPA preferred
- Energetic and enthusiastic person
- Well developed interpersonal and communication skills with the ability to deliver to tight deadlines in a fast paced environment
- Team player, comfortable working in a fast paced and multi-cultural environment
- Ability to present work and findings in a clear and concise manner
- Strong technical accounting and analytical skills with attention to detail
- Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office; SUN accounts package an added advantage but not essential
- Ability to travel to other areas where the company operates
